Casa Museo José Carlos Mariátegui

The Casa Museo José Carlos Mariátegui housed Mariátegui during the last five and most productive years of his life (1925-1930).

It is a one-level building of republican architecture from the 1920s. It was completely rebuilt by the centenary of the birth of José Carlos Mariátegui (1994).

The main building is of non-conventional material (adobe), with roof and wood coverings, coated with waterproofing material. Its floors are made of machihembrada wood and national tile. Doors and windows completed with colorless glass, with plaster coating and finished with paint and wood veneer.

In this room prepared his books The Contemporary Scene (1925) and the Seven Essays of Interpretation of the Peruvian Reality (1928), as well as the magazine Amauta (1926-1930) and the labor biannual (1929).

The statutes of the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) and the foundations for the founding of the Peruvian Socialist Party were also drafted.

Also in the "Rincón Rojo" Mariátegui met with the most representative people of the cultural, artistic, labor and political life of Peru, among them: Jorge Basadre, José María Eguren, Martín Adán, Jorge Del Prado, Ángela Ramos, Waldo Frank, Estuardo Núñez, Julio Portocarrero, Luis Alberto Sánchez, among others.

You can see the lobby, the desk and the "Red Corner" (restored with the highest possible fidelity to the times of Mariátegui himself), as well as the offices of the magazine Amauta and the bedrooms of Mariátegui and their children, as well as other environments Like the kitchen, the dining room and others. For the implementation of the museum house rooms for exhibitions, meetings, library, reading room and administrative offices have been adapted.
