The idea here is to more clearly formulate the convergence between a fundraising event, dinner, or party and a Kickstarter. How far can we get in merging these things into a single whole?
The more general concept here is that of a Crowdfunding Party. More precisely it as the idea of an opening party, and a closing party top-and-tailing a crowdfunding campaign.
In one sense this is just common sense. A marketing thing. But it is also something further if taken to its ultimate conclusion. Really integrate the process of making into the event - launch, sprint, release a proof of concept.
This type of integration only really applies to certain specific sorts of product or content. In particular it applies to media rich content, or any content where you can get, and are are calling upon a wide body of people to contribute. In these situations your marketing campaign is your crowdfunding campaign.
For FEAST we are looking to create software, but mainly we are looking to produce and organise podcasts and radio content. For such an event we can consider integrating the following elements: - Development Sprint - Production MOOC - Crowdfunding Campaign
# Opening Event
To launch the crowd funding campaign there would be an opening event, or "party" in which we celebrate and promote the Crowdfunding campaign.
This works particularly well when the subject of the crowdfunding campaign has an art, music of media element - but it can also work in a more intellectual sense where the opening event ("party") is more of a "conference" or "workshop".
For FEAST, if we take this as an example, we can use the June Soho / OSCEDays as an opening event. OSCEDays is June 6-12, and the Soho Food Feast is June 10-11. So we could do an opening event on June 12th in Soho.
# 6 weeks of Workshops
Next there would be a period of making. We would run a MOOC on radio production, we would make a mobile app, and other aspects of the project. The aim would be to involve as many people as possible around their own podcasts and FEASTs.
To do this we would need a scaleable methodology, with groups self-organising their own activity.
# Closing Party
The closing party would then be the FEAST itself. This would be the most intense period of fund raising
